The Building of the Temple

3:1 Solomon began building the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem 1  on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David prepared at the threshing floor of Ornan 2  the Jebusite.

2 Tawarikh 6:4

6:4 He said, “The Lord God of Israel is worthy of praise because he has fulfilled 3  what he promised 4  my father David.

2 Tawarikh 8:14

2 Tawarikh 23:14

Konteks
23:14 Jehoiada the priest sent out the officers of the units of hundreds, who were in charge of the army, and ordered them, “Bring her outside the temple to the guards. 9  Put the sword to anyone who follows her.” The priest gave this order because he had decided she should not be executed in the Lord’s temple. 10

2 Tawarikh 23:18

Konteks
23:18 Jehoiada then assigned the duties of the Lord’s temple to the priests, the Levites whom David had assigned to the Lord’s temple. They were responsible for offering burnt sacrifices to the Lord with joy and music, according to 11  the law of Moses and the edict of David.

2 Tawarikh 27:5

Konteks

27:5 He launched a military campaign 12  against the king of the Ammonites and defeated them. That year the Ammonites paid him 100 talents 13  of silver, 10,000 kors 14  of wheat, and 10,000 kors 15  of barley. The Ammonites also paid this same amount of annual tribute the next two years. 16

2 Tawarikh 29:24

Konteks
29:24 Then the priests slaughtered them. They offered their blood as a sin offering on the altar to make atonement for all Israel, because the king had decreed 17  that the burnt sacrifice and sin offering were for all Israel.

2 Tawarikh 29:31

Konteks
29:31 Hezekiah said, “Now you have consecrated yourselves 18  to the Lord. Come and bring sacrifices and thank offerings 19  to the Lord’s temple.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and whoever desired to do so 20  brought burnt sacrifices.

2 Tawarikh 32:12

Konteks
32:12 Hezekiah is the one who eliminated 21  the Lord’s 22  high places and altars and then told Judah and Jerusalem, “At one altar you must worship and offer sacrifices.”

2 Tawarikh 34:33

Konteks
34:33 Josiah removed all the detestable idols from all the areas belonging to the Israelites and encouraged 23  all who were in Israel to worship the Lord their God. Throughout the rest of his reign 24  they did not turn aside from following the Lord God of their ancestors.

2 Tawarikh 36:23

Konteks
36:23 It read: “This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: ‘The Lord God of the heavens has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build for him a temple in Jerusalem 25  in Judah. May the Lord your God energize you who belong to his people, so you may be able to go back there!” 26

[3:1]  2 tn In 2 Sam 24:16 this individual is called אֲרַוְנָא (“Aravna”; traditionally “Araunah”). The form of the name found here also occurs in 1 Chr 21:15; 18-28.

[6:4]  3 tn The Hebrew text reads, “fulfilled by his hand,” but the phrase “by his hand” is somewhat redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[6:4]  4 tn The Hebrew text reads, “promised by his mouth,” but the phrase “by his mouth” is somewhat redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[8:14]  5 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Solomon) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[8:14]  6 tn Heb “and the Levites, according to their posts, to praise and to serve opposite the priests according to the matter of a day in its day.”

[8:14]  7 tn Heb “and the gatekeepers by their divisions for a gate and a gate.”

[8:14]  8 tn Heb “for so [was] the command of David the man of God.”

[23:14]  9 tn Heb “ranks.”

[23:18]  11 tn Heb “as it is written in.”

[27:5]  12 tn Heb “he fought with.”

[27:5]  13 tn The Hebrew word כִּכַּר (kikar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or, by extension, to a standard unit of weight. According to the older (Babylonian) standard the “talent” weighed 130 lbs. (58.9 kg), but later this was lowered to 108.3 lbs. (49.1 kg). More recent research suggests the “light” standard talent was 67.3 lbs. (30.6 kg). Using this as the standard for calculation, the weight of the silver was 6,730 lbs. (3,060 kg).

[27:5]  14 sn As a unit of dry measure a kor was roughly equivalent to six bushels (about 220 liters).

[27:5]  15 tn Heb “10,000 kors of wheat and 10,000 of barley.” The unit of measure of the barley is omitted in the Hebrew text, but is understood to be “kors,” the same as the measures of wheat.

[27:5]  16 tn Heb “This the sons of Ammon brought to him, and in the second year and the third.”

[29:24]  17 tn Heb “said.”

[29:31]  18 tn Heb “filled your hand.”

[29:31]  19 tn Or “tokens of thanks.”

[29:31]  20 tn Heb “and all who were willing of heart.”

[32:12]  21 tn Heb “Did not he, Hezekiah, eliminate…?” This rhetorical question presupposes a positive reply (“yes, he did”) and so has been translated here as a positive statement.

[32:12]  22 tn Heb “his”; the referent (the Lord) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[34:33]  23 tn Or “caused, forced.”
